Postojna Cave passed yet another important milestone today, as it received the 39 millionth visitor. The lucky guest was Graeme Ellis from New Zealand, who came to see the cave with his wife.

To celebrate the today’s 39 millionth visitor to the Postojna cave visitors saw spectacular event, the stackline walker Miha Škof was walking and balancing 15 meters above the river Pivka for 50 meters.

The first visitor to the newly-discovered part of the cave was the then Austrian heir to the throne Ferdinand I on 17 August 1819. This visit was also used to introduce guest books at the cave and the tradition of counting visitors to Slovenia’s premiere tourist attraction has not been interrupted since. In the first year it received 104 visitors, with the number rising to almost a million a year towards the end of the 20th and has exceeded 39 million today.

The famous 200 years old first guest book of visitors is now exhibited in the Expo Cave Karst exhibition, after three months it will be sent to restoration.
