Slovenian travel journalists organized for more than half of the century take part at promotion, but also critical coverage of Slovenian and also word tourism as one of the phenomena of contemporary global society. We are especially proud of the fact, that our activities within journalistic organizations are even one year older than the ITB Berlin – World’s Leading Travel Trade Show.
In the Association Slovenian Travel Press we are especially proud that in the last 50 years we organized two World Congresses of Travel Journalists and Writers with the support of the whole Slovenian travel industry. About both congresses its participants even nowadays speak in superlatives, and the one organized in the Year2008 is said to be the best organized congress in the 66 years long existence of FIJET – World Federation of Travel Journalist and Writers.
Alas, in single periods our activities experienced more difficult times, reflecting socioeconomic relations in the Slovenian society and media. Whereas in former state each more notable republic or even regional media employed a specialized travel journalist, nowadays, when the share of tourism amounted to 13 per cent in the GDP of the Slovenian independent state, which in the world due to the numerous prestigious awards is recognized as a green tourist destination, a specialized travel journalist is being employed only by the national television, whereas the tourist supplements of dailies are mostly hundred per cent commercialized.
The main goal of the Association Slovenian Travel Press is thus to restore the former significance, reputation and worth of Slovenian travel journalism and of travel journalism in social media. One of the tools is annual handing out of the Chrystal Triglav, the reward for the most ousting achievement in Slovenian tourism, besides we are daily present in Slovenian and international media. On our new modern designed website you will find up-to-date information about our activities and we will be glad to receive your suggestions and feedback. On our website we will publish features, comments and travelogues written by members of our association as well as actual news about Slovenian and international tourism.
